Long hours of practice and seemingly endless travel fill the working lives of many entertainers. Their relationships are often defined in large part by professional considerations. Because of the success of their husbands or wives, these celebrity spouses are not only married to their partners, but “married to the industry” as well. Unfortunately, the entertainment industry has never provided these spouses with any kind of reliable support network to help navigate their newly complicated lives. Tours, scheduling, child care, schools, health care, housing, investment, financial planning, insurance, many spouses lack the prior knowledge and skills necessary to manage these necessities. Celebrity Spouses, Inc. believes the spouses need assistance.
Amy Brimicombe, formerly of the Pro Sports Wives Association and Magazine, witnessed, first hand, the overlooked and under-supported demographic crying out for help. She saw the writings on the wall, and realized the overwhelming demand for a spousal support system. After leaving the Pro Sports Wives Association, she reached out to other industries to try to understand what support structures existed for the spouses. She came to the realization that little or no support existed. Shocked by her discovery, Brimicombe decided someone had to take a stand for the spouses. In 2010, Brimicombe developed Celebrity Spouses, Inc. as her way to speak out for the spouses and offer the support she realized those spouses desperately need.
According to Brimicombe, the lives of celebrity spouses are not always easy. She notes, “Spouses in the entertainment industries are often alone for long periods of time while their partners are on the road. They experience frequent invasion of family privacy, and have to learn how to communicate with agents and managers and consistently exhibit public support for their famous partner.” Clearly, celebrity spouses need help. In the exclusive world of Hollywood and Pro Sports, there is a lack of organized support structures for the beleaguered families of entertainers. In March 2010, Celebrityspouses.net burst onto the scene to fill that gap.
